Maybank Scholarship



Scholarship Programme
The Maybank Scholarship Programme aims to provide full sponsorship for high quality students in local and foreign premier universities. It is part of the Group’s human capital development strategy to ensure a pool of leaders who can help Maybank achieve its vision as a regional financial services leader

Overseas: 17th – 30th June 2011
Local : 14th – 31st January 2012
Features:
  • Full sponsorship (tuition fees, accommodation, laptop and allowances)
  • Employment with Maybank after studies.

Requirements:
  • Not more than 23 years of age
  • Obtained admission to or currently pursuing full-time degree
  • Obtained minimum 3 As or its equivalent in STPM/Foundation/Pre-U or minimum CGPA of 3.50 in University
  • Leadership experience in at least 3 co-curricular activities (high school onwards)
  • Individuals with high energy and who aspire to seek challenging and rewarding career upon graduation
  • Applicants must not be a recipient of any other scholarship or award from other organizations/foundations

1. What is Maybank Scholarship Award?
Maybank Scholarship Award aims to assist deserving high potential students who are currently pursuing studies (a full-time degree) at JPA approved universities.

2. I am a Maybank staff. Am I eligible for the Maybank Scholarship Award?
Staff is not eligible for the Maybank Scholarship Award. However, confirmed staff whose children meet our qualifying criteria can apply for the scholarship.

3. What are the qualifying criteria for the Maybank Scholarship Award?
  • Not more than 23 years of age
  • Obtained admission to or currently pursuing full-time degree
  • Obtained minimum 3 As or its equivalent in STPM/Foundation/Pre-U or minimum CGPA of 3.50 in University

5. If I choose a different discipline, will my application still be considered?
Yes, although preference will be for courses which have been pre-determined.

6. What will I get from the Maybank Scholarship Award?
You will receive:
  • Full sponsorship (tuition fees, accommodation, laptop and allowances)
  • Employment with Maybank after studies

7. What happens once I have successfully completed my degree?
You will have the opportunity to join Maybank. Being a scholar also means that you are considered for the Maybank Apprentice Program, the bank’s leadership entry pipeline.

8. Which universities in Malaysia are accepted under the Maybank Scholarship Award?
Students from JPA approved universities who meet our qualification criteria are encouraged to apply.

9. What are the expectations of a Maybank Scholar during the period of scholarship?
You are expected to perform at the highest level throughout the duration of your study. Scholars must satisfy all course works, examinations and/or dissertation requirements, as well as meet the minimum CGPA of 3.50 every semester to be eligible for the scholarship.

10. Is there a bond?

Yes, there is a scholarship bond imposed on Maybank Scholars.

11. Which intake is applicable for me?

Maybank Scholarship Award is available in 2 categories:
  • Overseas: Students who obtained admission to or currently pursuing full-time degree overseas
  • Local: Students who obtained admission to or currently pursuing full-time degree in local public and private universities.

12. What about students in twinning programmes?
3+0 twinning programmes fall under local intake whereas for students who are required to complete their degrees in overseas (eg. 2+1), fall under overseas intake.

13. How many guarantors are required? Who is suitable to be my guarantor?
2 guarantors are required to complete your scholarship application. A guarantor is someone who guarantees that you will adhere to the agreement of the Scholarship award (i.e. the terms and conditions). A guarantor should typically be someone who is close to you (e.g. family member, friend, family friend, etc) and is financially stable, should you in any way break the Scholarship Agreement terms.

KLK Scholarship 2011



KLK has established a foundation, (Yayasan KLK), which offers scholarships to deserving undergraduates from the lower income group pursuing a diploma or degree course at any local government universities. Upon graduation, candidates may be offered positions suitable to their course of study within the KLK Group of Companies.
Advertisements for the scholarships are placed out every year. The applicants based on our criteria are then screened and short-listed for an interview. Successful applicants are provided with annual grant over the minimum duration of their courses as follows:
Degree - RM 7,000 per academic year
Diploma - RM 5,000 per academic year
While undergoing tertiary education, the scholar's academic performances are monitored and they are provided field training when necessary. Such monitoring is necessary as it ensures only good talents are subsequently recruited to continue the Group's tradition of leadership excellence.

Eligibility Criteria
1. Open to all qualified Malaysian citizens who have gained admission to recognised local government universities/institutions of higher learning including employee's children of the KLK Group of Companies.



2. Free from any bond and not holding scholarship or receiving any financial assistance from other organizations.


3. Willing to serve a bonded period of two years for Diploma courses and three years for Degree courses from the date of appointment.


4. Adhere always to the rules and regulations of Yayasan KLK


FAQ
1. What is this scholarship?
It is a programme offered by Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad under Yayasan KLK, opened to all qualified Malaysian citizens pursuing their diploma or degrees at local government universities.

2.
What are the requirements of the scholarship?
You should at least have gained admission to a local government university and have the following qualifications: Those with SPM results should at least have a minimum of Aggregate 15 and below, whereas for STPM holders, you should have a minimum of 60 points to qualify for this scholarship.

3. If I choose to pursue a programme in a private institution of higher learning, will I be eligible to apply for this scholarship?
No. At present we only offer this program to those who are pursuing their tertiary education with a local government university.

4. Are all courses provided in the local government universities also eligible this scholarship?
Yes. All courses will be considered.

5. Will I be required to serve the organization upon graduation?
Yes. Although we call this a bond period, we actually use this period to provide a platform for our graduate scholars to learn and develop their talents, which in return provide growth opportunities within the KLK Group of Companies.

6. What is the quantum of scholarships offered?
Those pursuing Diploma programmes are granted RM 5,000 per year. Degree courses are offered RM 7,000 per year.

7. How is this amount being disbursed by the Yayasan?
Yayasan KLK pays the said amount through the university where you have gained admission. We have separate arrangement made through the university bursary.

8. Will I be guaranteed employment within KLK Group of Companies upon graduation?
In fact, we would love to do so but your employment depends on the availability of jobs and your university results upon your graduation.

9. What happens to my scholarship bond if the Company does not offer me employment upon my graduation?
You would be released from your bond without needing to repay the Yayasan any money.

10. When I am employed to serve the Company, what happens if I resign before my bond ends?
You would be required to pay the Yayasan the proportionate amount based on 80% of the scholarship given to you.

11. What forms do I have to complete to apply for the scholarship?
The "Yayasan KLK Application For Scholarship" form, which could be obtained in a pdf version from here.

12. When do I need to apply for the scholarship?
Within two weeks upon receiving your offer of admission from the university.

13. When would Yayasan KLK advertise their scholarship programme?

Advertised each year in early June.

14. In what media would this advertisement appear?
The News Straits Times, The Star and also at www.klk.com.my

15. When will I receive notification of the status of my application from Yayasan KLK?
If you are short-listed, you should receive a letter to attend our interview by the month of July. Otherwise, you may consider yourself unsuccessful.
